EDU 653 Week 4 Problem Students NEW
Problem Students. Problem students can be found in both the online environment and in traditional college classrooms. Left unchecked, troublesome behavior is likely to become increasingly distracting as a semester progresses. Managed well, difficult behaviors provide opportunities to teach the offending student appropriate skills to be successful in college and in life. Managed poorly, these behaviors can lead to low performance evaluations and a poor learning environment for all students.
For your assignment this week, you will demonstrate your potential for working with—instead of against— problem students. Prepare a product that demonstrates an understanding of each of the following needs when dealing with problem students:
1. Recognizing and addressing problems in the earliest stages
2. Appropriate intervention strategies for different styles of behavior
3. Theory behind working with difficult and unmotivated students
4. Do’s and don’ts of working with frustrated, unmotivated students
5. Making referrals to appropriate campus resources
For this assignment, feel free to be creative! You can produce a document, create a video, a PowerPoint presentation, a mind map, or you can come up with your own way to explain a general process for dealing with a diversity of problem students and behaviors. Whatever you choose to create, provide access to your instructor by uploading all the necessary files, and providing all necessary links and/or text in a document. There is no page or length requirement for this assignment, as that will limit your creativity; however, make sure you have fully addressed all the required topics listed above. Additionally, be sure to cite your resources as necessary, and include a separate reference page in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
